Located in Kaiping City, Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, Kaiping Diaolou is a special type of Chinese vernacular architecture. It is a multi-storey tower building integrating defense, residence and Chinese and Western architectural art. Its characteristic is a combination of Chinese and Western residential styles, with various styles such as ancient Greece, ancient Rome, and Islam. According to existing empirical evidence, the Kaiping Diaolou was born in the late Ming Dynasty (16th century).
As an important historical site and representative building in modern times, the State Council announced Kaiping Diaolou as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level in 2001; In 2005, it was rated as the "Most Beautiful Place in Guangdong"; In 2006, it was awarded the Gold Award for "50 Most Worthy Places for Foreigners to Visit in China", the "Most Beautiful Village in Guangdong" demonstration site, and the "Best Tourist Attraction in Guangdong Province". In June 2007, it was listed in the The World Heritage List, that is, the Kaiping Diaolou and Villages became "World Cultural Heritage Sites".
